This course has in view the needs of students for a basis grounding of performing 17th and 18th century music. It doesn't matter if the instrument is a "modern" or "old" one. This course summarises the principles of authentic interpretation in baroque music and thier practical application in performance. It dileberately leaves out the more complicated or controversial refinements, but it brings in whatever the student shoud now regard as essential, substantiated by the evidence of the baroque composers and wirters themselves. Bart Spanhove will students provide with basis information about ornaments, rhetorics, phrasing and articulation, musical forms, rhythmic alteration, to sum up a few modules.

This course is open to students of main subject Instrumental/Vocal Studies.
